It opens with an interview with Sonya Permiakova, a lecturer and researcher in British culture and literature. Among other things, she is talking about the inspiring academic collaboration between Berlin and Oxford in organizing the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften. Then The Right Honourable Ben Bradshaw, an MP of Exeter and the member of the Advisors’ Board, discusses with us his days as a BBC correspondent in Berlin around the time of the reunification. He also shares the recollections of his political career, including his year as a Cabinet Minister for Culture, and the challenges he faced while being in charge of the NHS. Professor Gerhard Dannemann talks about the GBZ students’ unique experience with the law module - and their surprisingly better results compared to the actual law students. He also describes how the module itself has changed since the inception of the programme. Rachel Launay, one of the Advisors’ Board member, tells us about the role of the British Council and its work in promoting the English language, arts, and education. Professor Lyndal Roper, Professor of Modern History and honorary fellow of Merton College, Oxford, discusses with us the experiences during growing up in Australia that later inspired her to study German history. She talks about her groundbreaking biography of Martin Luther and renowned works on witchcraft, as well as her inspiration when it comes to research. The episode is concluded by Lena Nüchter, whose teaching of the Cultural Management module allowed us to produce the event in the first place, giving her verdict about the evening.
