Gavana aka DJ Anna Gavanas

I have been on a non-stop DJ mission since the 1990s: immersed in endless musical explorations forwards, backwards and sideways. Having lived through numerous phases, club cultures and cities -- in Stockholm, New York, Amsterdam, Chicago, Leeds and London -- I combine a broad range of styles between garage/ house/ techno, disco/italo, global beats as well as UK steppers dub, dancehall, drum&bass and jungle.
To me the magic resides in contrasts and unexpected combinations in the moment: I have never seen a point in limiting oneself to one single "niche." I also like to travel between different musical segments over the course of a night. One of the things I love the most about DJ:ing is never knowing beforehand what the mood will be, who will turn up and how they will react to different sounds: it is a constant collective dynamic between DJ, dancers and listeners.
I have DJ:ed at numerous clubs, dancefloors, lounges and festvals in Sweden and abroad: from the mid-1990s until today. To mention a few: Tak Stockholm, Fotografiska, Hotel Malmen, Marie Laveau, Debaser, Brooklyn Bar, Berns, Munchenbryggeriet, MondayBar, Fredsgatan 12 and Svaj in Stockholm; Kit Kat Club (Berlin), Ritterbutzke (Berlin), 103 Club (Berlin) -- as well as Clandestinofestivalen, Freerotation festival (Wales), Arvikafestivalen, Norbergfestivalen, Voltfestivalen and Hultsfredsfestivalen. I have also performed my own music, producing and releasing records as Gavana and as part of Pufferfisk and Bass Trolls.

I am also the author of books and articles on DJ Culture, such as "DJ Culture In The Mix" (Bloomsbury 2013) with Attias and Rietveld; and "DJ-liv: historien om hur diskjockeyn erövrade Stockholm" with Öström (Gidlunds feb 2016)
