Gareth Evans is a talented and versatile multi-instrumentalist who is rapidly making a name for himself, not only as a performer but also as a composer and producer.
Born in West Wales, he began learning piano at the age of 5, and this early start encouraged a life-long interest in lots of instruments and many genres of music.
Aged 14, Gareth won a top scholarship to study the French horn at a specialist music school in Wells, Somerset. During his time there, he was involved in several orchestral concerts and recordings and was honored to perform at many prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, London Royal Festival Halls, Washington's Kennedy Center and St. John Smiths Square. He also played drums and guitar in some of the non-classical ensembles at Wells, some highlights being supporting Rolf Harris, Elkie Brooks, Vanessa Mae and the BBC Big Band.
From there, Gareth went on to gain a place to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where he studied with Angus West, Principle Horn of the Welsh National Opera and graduated in 2001 with a BA honors degree in music.
It was during his time at Music College that Gareth co-formed a ‘ska/punk’ band called the Cheapskates, in which he played guitar, sang and was able to develop his love of song writing. The band went on to tour the UK and reached number one in the European ska charts.
In 2006, Gareth started to create his own studio and began producing drum and bass under the name 'Undersound'. He has since gained world - wide acclaim with over 50 releases and a stack of radio play including support from BBC radio 1 and the world's largest drum and bass radio station, Bass Drive radio.
Gareth is also in demand as a session musician, regularly working with the likes of High Contrast and Blame who are widely regarded as two of the biggest names in dance music today. As well as session work, Gareth works closely with T.V, dance and theatre companies, composing music, creating backing tracks and editing music for appearances in television shoes such as 'Britain's got Talent', Sky1's 'Got to Dance' and ‘free sports’ on channel 4.
In winter 2010, Gareth composed and produced original music for a theatre production which had a sold-out run in Chapter Arts Center in Cardiff.
More recently, Gareth has teamed up with well established dance producers Karl G and Jamesie, as a singer and instrumentalist. Their debut single ’Never Should’ gained massive radio and live support from Judge Jules, who said '' Never Should is one of my top tunes of Ibiza 2010''.
Influenced by "everything", he is most at home in his ever growing studio where he writes, produces and performs many genres of music.
Whether it is rock, hip hop, house, funk, classical, metal, ska, blues or drum and bass, there are always many exciting projects on the go and even more on the horizon.
Gareth currently lives in Cardiff and runs a successful private teaching practice where he tutors in guitar, drums, trumpet, French horn and music theory.
