Francis Steel Music Francis Steel, a new artistic and musical collaboration between brothers Danté and Harrison, has a sound inspired by the energy and dramatic potential of gypsy street music, yet remains accessible to pop sensibilities through carefully crafted hip hop beats, catchy rhythms, and unusual vocal harmonies. The brothers were separated as children and both struggled to find a supportive creative community growing up in various towns in Southern Indiana and Kentucky. Their international travels have exposed them to North African, Hungarian gypsy, Jamaican and traditional Mexican music, creating a diverse combination of influences. Dante and Harrison came together to play music for the first time as adults at the funeral of their larger-than-life patriarch of a grandfather. The experience acted as a catalyst, and they have spent their respective time and resources nurturing this rare collaborative energy. The brothers since have had difficulty separating the visual arts from music, constructing a world fueled with a unique magical realism – using poetic social commentary grounded in the brothers’ shared volatile and poverty-stricken childhood to narrate fantastical sonic and visual stories. Francis Steel is releasing a self-produced and recorded E.P. The Brain or the Body this summer with visual content soon to follow.
