Following from two high profile releases from Flava D and Killjoy featuring D Double E, Formula looks to its founder to progress the year into uncharted territory, and Champion delivers in abundance.

‘Arcade’ is the tune that’s got a range of selectors in a spin, as Champion toys with retro-gaming samples and stuttering, treated drums to create a disorientating ride through the grime/bass platform game in every raver’s mind. A hybrid of influences abound on a track that’s sits as happily in a Hessle set as it does being ridden by high calibre MCs like Jammz. Currently receiving support from Ben UFO and Four Tet – level up!

We’re on more familiar ground with the rattling kick drum and heart-stopping bass squelches present in ‘Chrome’, a track that’s been doing the rounds in Champion’s sets for a minute. Inventive as ever, this is a swung half time riddim with all the producer’s intricate attention to detail, building a hard hitting drum track from the ground up and going ham on the skank-out subs. And as for that second drop? Just wait and see what that does to a dance.
