Love Life LIVE! Your music, Our passion, One Mission.
I can't bear the thought that people might write off 'Folkstock' without even hearing some of the music and making an informed decision. So, while there are hundreds of people who go to folk clubs and similar events locally, I would like to throw the net open to all purveyors of good music and see if more people can enjoy these artists, singing real songs, on authentic instruments, when what you hear is what you'll see on stage.
And then, the artists will be able to be paid for their gigs, sell their CD's and get themselves the audiences that they so deserve. And we all get better music and better musicians enriching our lives :)
'it's not really my thing'... how often have I heard this ? and I can understand that sentiment. Until Lauren started playing ukulele and mandolin and creating songs about which I though, hey, this is actually ok /fun/ sweet/ surprisingly good music, I would not have listened voluntarily to anything with folk embedded into the genre listing..
So, here I am, putting on a festival called Folkstock in three weeks time, sourcing and showcasing emerging folk (ish), roots and acoustic artists along side BBC 2 Folk Award winners in September. It is a homage to all that is folky, acoustic and rootsy, well as much as I can fit into four stages on one day. And the affordable family friendly 'boutique' festival will have a local fete, be raising money for Cancer Research UK and local community groups, be serving teas and lovely cakes, provide activities for children, arts and crafts stalls, have ceilidhs, Morris Dancers, award winning ales from a local brewery and a variety of delicious food on offer, oh and sublime music (!).
It is the subject of academic research to incorporate the best practices of social inclusion and will be part of a reseach project covering the whole of the foundations' activities by eminent community festival professors Dr. Linda Wilks and Dr Allan Jepson. They will be assessing the social gain, risk management, ethnic inclusion, community reach and audience development of the festival and the foundation as a whole.

On this link is a selection of tracks from performers for Folkstock festival. 21st September 2013.
To be held at Aldenham Country Park.
Be prepared to think - is this Folk ? well, perhaps this is not your expectation of what folk is, and those who are REALLY into their folk would say it probably isn't, but there is a welcome resurgence and interest in new music, particularly if played on traditional instruments associated with folk music, and so it's good honest music and it will be at the festival !
All songs have links to the artists websites and some biog.
Enjoy, and thanks for taking part x
NO ANIMALS WERE HURT IN THE MAKING OF THIS COMPILATION.
