Fold Fold Leeds Based in Leeds, Fold explore the musical nature of language that also carries important messages. James Baldwin once said that as artists “we don’t change anything, all we can do is invest people with the morale to change it for themselves.” Fold is concerned with amplifying perspectives that aren’t heard enough and projecting a future in which life is systemically valued over profit. Binding together a diverse group of people across time and space, the voices in their music come in the form of MCs, poets, historical speakers and singers. Their musical influences range from jazz-funk through Brazilian psyche, hip hop and downtempo. Fold have gained a sound reputation as a gem in the crown of the underground British music scene. When BBC 6 Music's Lauren Laverne planned a special live broadcast on the eve of Record Store Day out of Huddersfield's iconic Vinyl Tap Records, Fold was chosen to perform and represent the region. Their music is played on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Amazing Radio and independent stations across the world. Indie Shuffle are big fans, they’ve been featured in The Times, The Guardian and The NME. Over the years Fold have supported urgent causes wherever possible with numerous benefit gigs for refugees, migrants and asylum seekers, a widely acclaimed remix of hip-hop duo Ceiling Demons for the UK CALM charity and a single to raise money for wounded civilians in Gaza. “Absolutely loving this!” — Lauren Laverne (BBC 6 Music) “That was kinda bad right there.” — Huey Morgan, (BBC 6 Music) “Witty and satisfyingly groove led.” — Marc Burrows (The Guardian) “Great vibes.” — Don Letts (Big Audio Dynamite, BBC 6 Music) “So Interesting, so original” — Dave Rowntree, Blur “The perfect tonic for a discordant mind.” — Shell Zenner (BBC Leeds, Amazing Radio) “This band has earned, quite naturally, a level of trust from me. I see the name Fold pop up, and I just trust that after clicking play, I will meet a song that has the power to make me think. A lot of songs focus on individualistic lives that become an example that one may or may not be able to relate to, whereas some songs touch on something a little more universal. The latter approach is the one that this Leeds-based band takes again and again.” — Jami Selikow (Indie Shuffle) Fold’s tracks The Painful Truth by Fold published on 2023-04-22T16:18:48Z Who The Hell Are We? by Fold published on 2023-02-01T17:46:17Z Sustain by Fold published on 2022-09-11T11:39:19Z Take It All Back by Fold published on 2022-07-12T08:53:27Z Komla MC vs Fold — Victoria Falls by Fold published on 2022-01-04T15:34:02Z Concrete Things by Fold published on 2021-05-29T15:29:23Z Illuminations by Fold published on 2021-06-02T14:24:38Z Aphelion (ft.
