You're on the dance floor, not thinking, just dancing; everything has come together in one pure moment of coordination and connectivity. The sense of time becomes distorted. Time flies. Science calls this 'being in a state of flow'. It's Flow Theory.
Flow Theory’s alter-ego, Ashley Zadel, began playing out in Cape Town, South Africa – a hotbed of psychedelic trance. Travels took him abroad, to the concrete jungles of the UK and Israel. Sharp new minimalist impulses began to colour his work, and his mind expanded like a universe. Flow Theory sprung into the world, like he was just waiting to happen.
Since those days, he's had increasingly amazing experiences. On one side of the world he was a resident at London's crazy A.T.A.R.I Parties, and king of dancefloors at clubs Area, Light Box and Dex. On the other side of the world he spent one New Year’s Eve playing in the silk-soft sand and hot sun of Brazil’s infamous Universo Paralello festival. And he’s entered a new phase of his career as label DJ with the UK crew of Free-Spirit Records and the Aussie crew of Solar Records.
Continuing his tradition of high energy parties in glorious locations, Flow Theory recently travelled back to his South African homeland and headlined the Tswaing Crater Gathering, Equinox Experience, and world-renowned Groovy Troopers festival. This past year was also a massive one for Aussie fans with Flow Theory blowing minds wide open at Regrowth, Rabbits Eat Lettuce, Lost the Plot and Subsonic Music festival.
Flow Theory is honoured to have shared stages with some of his favourite artists, psytrance legends Ace Ventura, Avalon, Broken Toy, Captain Hook, Day Din, Headroom, Egorythmia, Journey, Nitrodrop, Nok, Perfect Stranger, Ritmo, Static Movement, Symphonix, Talpa, U-Recken, Zen Mechanics and Zyce to name a few.
All these experiences have led to Flow Theory’s sound: a crisp fusion of minimalist and rhythmic progressive styles. The name is more than just a handle, it’s a way to explain a concept of being – aiming for and experiencing flow, enhanced by sound, texture, and environment.
You'll know his work when you find yourself on a dance floor, your whole being involved and your senses fully engaged. Time flies...
