0:00 - 3:40 "Silently Smolder"
A young and molten earth yearns for company.
3:40 - 6:25 "Cambrian Explosion"
Company arrives in the form of increasingly violent lifeforms.
6:25 - 8:39 "From Your Caves, Emerge!"
Humanity reaches its current point in evolution, and looks up at the stars for the first time in wonder.
8:39 - 10:53 "Outward"
Humanity invents agriculture, and from this point onward, builds increasingly vast civilizations.
10:53 - 14:26 "Inward"
Humanity runs out of room as the Dark Ages hit. However, the renaissance has other ideas.
14:26 - 17:49 "Upward"
Humanity reaches the moon. The Earth realizes that the company she has come to love and cherish is not permanent, and sings a song of farewell to her favorite children. (Unfortunately, I am not a woman, so please make do with my voice instead.)
Wow. What can I even say about this other than, "Thank god it's finally over"? I've been working on this song since October 15th, and it is without question the finest piece of music I have ever composed. I'm almost reluctant to press "submit" because I've become so addicted to working on it.
But if I made it much longer, the filesize limit on this format would positively DEVASTATE my pride and joy.
I'll post a link to the uncompressed render in the comments for the stream.
If this was the last song I ever wrote, I can't say I wouldn't be satisfied. At a time closer to the present than I'd like to admit, I considered the idea of writing one final towering work as a capstone of my ability, and then ending my life, in so doing, leaving a musical suicide note.
This is what my suicide note would have been.
Of course, thanks to Loon (to whom this song is dedicated), I no longer have even fleeting thoughts like these. And, to be honest, this song is far more inspired than anything I could have written in a hopeless state.
Thank you for reading my ramblings, and I hope you love it as much as I loved writing it.
Lyrics:
you aren't strong, you're weak/ you aren't brave, you're fearful
you aren't big, you're small, so small/ but you... you were mine.
you aren't sincere, you do not grieve/you aren't faithful, what do you believe?
you aren't fair, you are cruel,/you aren't wise, you are the fool,
but yet despite your many flaws,/i've got to take this fateful pause
to tell you,/though i love you,/please go.
i knew you/before you knew what you could do
and i knew you/as you looked up at the sky
and my love/was eternal,/though your wars were so infernal
burning red, 'cross the sky,/the fire in your eyes
but for all your blood and battle,/as arrows flew, and sabers rattle
you were all my children,/and history books are filling
you're not so young as you once were,
as you launch yourselves, further and further,
please before you go,/can't you let me know
did you love me,/did i ever leave your mind?
will you miss me,/when you all leave me behind?
oh, I loved you,/and it hurts to see you go
and I'll miss you,/even though I know
the moon isn't too far away,/but close to me, you cannot stay,
though you leave me, I love you.
i once was just a molten globe,/spinning 'round the sun.
my friends the planets were alone,/i was the only one
to be so gifted with this life,/though it has led to so much strife,
i can't regret a moment,/inside me, I'm still glowing,
you can't stay, I won't be long,/before the sun gets big and strong,
my surface will be burning,/the time gets closer, as I'm turning
my favorite children, human race,
flee but don't forget my face,
i love you, so leave me,
don't stay.
