It would appear, the universe has aligned to deliver the ‘Flamin' Crows’, a West Australia blues trio, on a serious mission. These blues musicians from the most isolated geometries on the planet fan a smouldering and driving original style, forged on an anvil of iconic, historic Delta and hammering Texan blues with a distinctly Australian flavour.
Featuring Alan Rogers on guitar, Carl Holroyd on bass and Yugon Chobanoff on drums, the Flamin' Crows play a stylish, jumping powerhouse brand of electric rock blues grooves through a complex repertoire of ripping blues originals and adapted classics.
Recently forged on the festival stages around Australia, the band have released its 2nd all original 10 track album titled - "Too Much Is Not Enough" released on 31 October 2013.
The Flamin’ Crows have flown right into a purple patch recently winning the WA state Winter Blues Challenge, being finalists in the 'Best New Talent' category at the 2013 Chain Blues Music Awards and performing at major blues festivals including “Blues at Bridgetown” and “Blues on Broadbeach” festivals.
Alan (Al) Rogers – Guitar, Vocals
Alan’s stage presence, distinctive vocals and song writing ability drive the Flamin’ Crows and give the band an engaging and crowd pleasing flair. Having toured the USA and playing major venues with the ‘Lifters’, he formed contemporary country rock band Cowboy X who released an original 9 track self-titled CD in 2008. The blues though has always been his first love and guest appearances with blues outfits and blues club house bands across Australia provided the inspiration to form the Flamin’ Crows with Carl Holroyd in late 2011. The Flamin’ Crows original material reflects the diversity and range of influences from all the members with Al’s unique approach to song writing giving the band a contemporary edge rooted in tradition.
Carlos (the Bass Jackal) Holroyd - Bass Guitar
In his capacity as house band bass man for the South West Blues Club in West Australia, Carl has managed to hold down the bottom end for the likes of Louisiana Bluesman Eugene Hideaway Bridges, ABC recording artist Andy Cowan and the irrepressible 'Queen of Boogie Woogie', Jan Preston. His prior life included stints with Melbourne based artists Janette Geri, Gunners Dunnit, Twist of Lemming, Michael Charles and the Fallen Angels. In WA he was with legendary blues band Home Brew for 10 years and contemporary grunge country outfit Cowboy X. He is also a founding member and vice-president of the South West Blues Club Inc. - www.southwestbluesclub.org.
Yugon (Chobby) Chobanoff -the Russian on Percussion – Drums
Chob played for a number of years with the 'Nacho Mamas Blues band' in the early 90s then had a long run with the infamously cheeky jump blues band 'The Vibrolators'. Both bands had recorded numerous albums and performed at local venues and Blues festivals around Australia. In 2008, Chob was invited by International Blues artists Lynwood Slim (USA), Marc Thijs (Belgium) and Big Joe Louis (UK) to join them on their Australian tour as their sticks man. Over the past decade, Chob has been fortunate to be the resident drummer with "Diamond Dave and the Doo Daddies", playing the Perth scene and International Jazz/Blues Festivals in Malaysia and Borneo. He has also been the backing "West Coast Drummer" for prominent East Coast blues acts, "Lil Fi", "Ali Penney and the Money Makers" and Fiona Boyes.
Together the Flamin’ Crows are truly larger than the sum of the parts. They continue to receive rave reviews for their large festival and intimate showcase performances that feature female vocalist Linda “Sister Golden Hair” Rogers - where possible.
Just stand back and watch; these Flamin’ Crows are about to set a wildfire through the international blues scene and blues music fans will have something new to crow about.
