Fixers return with their ‘Imperial Goddess of Mercy’ EP, a jaw-dropping realization of their unique blend of psychedelia and world music influences.
It’s a utopian vision, a celebration of all they surround themselves with. ‘Imperial Goddess…’ is a stunning body of work. From pop to far out, pastoral psychedelia, its music with a world view, as if the band have soared round the Earth picking up influences and digesting them as they go to create something defiantly unique.
Lead track ‘Majesties Ranch’ sees synths, four-part harmonies, sleigh bells and tight guitar lines interweaving. Vocals, as become Fixers, soar from the stereo in echo drenched effects. References to beaches, oranges, baboons and coral betray the sun-kissed, Californian influence on Fixers music and lyrics.
‘Evil Carbs’ illustrates their Far Eastern influences. Its modern day psychedelia, it’s waves of synths delivering something very unique. ‘Selinah’ is decked with warped vocals giving the track an otherworldly presence. ‘Trans Love’, with its straightforward streamlined pop melodies, illustrates Fixers’ love of ‘The Beach Boys Love You’ album. The lyric ‘I’m in love with a tropical world’ perhaps sums up their mindset more than any other. ‘Divorce’ is like Barrett-era Pink Floyd – beautiful, plaintive and detached. A wonderful record.
With Radio 1 support already, as well as Q, NME, The Fly, The Guardian, Sunday Times Culture, Clash and more, Fixers are set to be one of the breakthrough bands next year when they release their debut album. Set for a release in Spring 2012, it will be one of the most exciting debuts from a British band in years.
