Pictish Trail reveals new track ‘Bad Algebra’ from ‘Thumb World’, four years in the making the new album is due for release on February 21, 2020 on Fire Records.
Bouncy pop track ‘Bad Algebra’ is a song of isolation that captures that feeling we experience when in the company of certain people.
“Bad Algebra is about how being in the company of certain people can make you feel more alone than if you were on your own. I think that’s true of a lot of relationships, and it can be a comforting thing as well as an isolating feeling. “You are my solitude, i’m never so alone by myself”. There can be a tendency to analyse/scrutinise your own behaviour when in the company of another.” - Pictish Trail
Currently touring with Steve Mason, Pictish Trail’s Micro-Edition live dates begin next month with Suse Bear before his newly announced Spring 2020 tour with the full band. Tune in to BBC6 Music’s Marc Riley on December 3rd when Pictish will also be live in session.
Bold, weird, wild, wired, sonically luxurious yet never losing touch with its DIY-‘til-I-die roots, ‘Thumb World’ is a voyage to the outer rings of Pictish Trail’s mind at its darkest, funniest and most inventive. Expect alien abductions, thumping beats, Trump-haired pigs, paternal panic, astronaut sex, bad acid trips, worse hangovers, lashings of distortion and a lot of anthropomorphic thumbs.
Produced and mixed by Rob Jones, featuring string arrangements from Kim Moore and drumming from Alex Thomas (Squarepusher, Anna Calvi, Air), Thumb World is Pictish Trail’s most collaborative album to date. An audio-visual dialogue with Swatpaz, AKA Scottish artist Davey Ferguson – the man behind the Turbo Fantasy series and an entire episode of cult TV phenomenon Adventure Time – furnished Johnny with not just a graphic aesthetic for the album, but even helped him to shape the sound of the finished record.
'Thumb World' is released on deluxe edition gatefold on pink LP includes sticker set, standard gatefold LP and CD.
