Weaver of sound. Weaver of time. Fiona likes to play a rainbow of audio delight. Tech, acid, deep, jazz, funk, swing. Always funky, soulful, raw, organic, colourful, vibrant. Feel good vibes, with a lot of earthly elements. Inspired by the sound of the 90’s Underground, but with her own flavours, she is focused on story, timing, pace and feel more than genre. Fiona is a very spur of the moment, easygoing person and plays the same way. Always a wide variety of sounds but nothing is ever planned or edited. Attention to detail but not to numbers, charts or popularity. Not afraid to take a risk and never compromising her sound, she does it for the love……
Born to the name Fiona Damme in Mielenhausen, a small village near Göttingen, Germany, it wasn’t until moving to Canada that Fiona Fossil was unearthed. This love affair started in 1996, and soon after she started to play out in Canada and the US. First just playing records and later adding a more live element by playing along with the saxophone. The more she started to develop a sound of her own, the more specific she became about the music that she would play. Finding tracks to fit her sound become more difficult so in 2012 she started to produce her own music. She loves to sing and create her own unique sounds to use in her tracks. Lovingly creating a style of her own, it will be her life’s mission from here on to set free the music within her. Patient, particular and never compromising acoustics or quality of sound.
Since the beginning house music has been Fiona’s lifestyle but more importantly her salvation, giving her both comfort and purpose. Having to always improvise and adapt on the fly and never taking any short cuts (offered by both people and the advancements of technology) has really given her the experience needed to be true to herself and the music. Fiona Damme was lost in the music but Fiona Fossil was found.
Fiona is fuelled with passion and love for the music and a deep respect for those artists, who by believing in and staying true their sound inspire and give her strength. She is mindful but completely surrendered to the music, playing only what makes her feel honoured, grateful and free. It’s a spiritual thang, a body thang, a soul thang…. We might all be from different continents but on Fiona’s dance floor we are all on the same planet.
