Leading the Pride is Finlandia University’s newest podcast in the Finlandia Podcast Network. It is a monthly podcast that focuses on accomplished Suomi College and Finlandia University alumni. The first guest on the show is Asha Tyson ('90), a Suomi alumna who went from abused homeless teenager begging her way into college to Fortune 500 motivational speaker and international best selling author of the book, How I Retired at 26!. Tyson arrived at Suomi in the fall of 1987 after spending all her money on a one-way greyhound bus ticket and a bucket of chicken wings. She earned her associates in Liberal Arts from Suomi, and then went to Northern Michigan University and obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. She was on her way to becoming a university president when she decided to retire at the age of 26. Listen as Tyson and host Olivia Myers, Coordinator of External Relations for Finlandia, discuss the importance of education, Tyson’s mentor Aretha Franklin, what it’s like to retire at 26 and the one time she told Donald Trump “Donald, you’re fired.” Connect with Asha Tyson at her website, http://ashatyson.com/ or on Instagram and Twitter @AshaTyson Genre Learning
