Your show host, Craft:
"Hi everyone! Welcome to episode 25 of Feed the Raver podcast with me your host Craft.
This week we present Edgar Paz, a respected Mexico City based DJ and producer who goes by the name Egun and his other alter ego Oxun. He is the founder of the well-known podcast series named "Indecent Sessions" as well as "The Fogotten Podcast". I had an episode on the Forgotten which aired on Fnoob techno radio a few months ago. He has always been passionate about music and and is very active supporting the techno community online. His sound is industrial, although he never leaves behind his roots based on acid & dark atmospheres.
With this new project Egun is looking to draw away from the obscure and hard side of techno, showing us the other side of this genre… always accompanied by deeper hypnotic techno tracks and profound atmospheres. Edgar recently started taking music production more seriously and we expect to hear some interesting releases from him soon under the name Egun.
Check out our website feedtheraver.com for our interview with Egun including his bio and links, but right now from Mexico it's time to Feed The Raver. Enjoy!"
Oxum (aka Egun) was born in Mexico City. At age nine, he started his interest for electronic sounds; do to the musical influence he obtained from his family and friends. Three years later he decides to formally introduce himself to the world of electronic music. At age 15, he starts to professionally play in some local parties; playing tracks from artists like, The Chemical Brothers, Seb Fontaine, Anthony Pappa, Mauro Picotto, Josh Wink, Joey Beltram and others.
Some years later he starts to have a more active participation in the electronic scene of his country, sharing stage with national artists like: Fixo, Dig-it and Sintoma and, international artists like, Alan Fitzpatrick. In 2011 he receives the invitation to participate on radio shows of United Kingdom, like “The Difference” by Stevie Wilson, Dark Frequency with Neil Birnie, Simmetrical Madness with Dexter Overclock and, others. That same year, he was invited to form part of the Fnoob Radio (UK) with a podcast; Were he had great international guests, such as: Submerge, A.Paul, Ricardo Garduno, Andres Gil, Vegim, Conrad Van Orton, Unam Zetineb and, many more.
In 2013 he is invited to form part of Techno Resistencia, which is, one of the oldest collectives in the techno scene in Mexico formed by many great talents like: Sintoma, founder of the collective, Fixon, Dig-it, Komprezzor, Erik Yahnkovf, Fonotecnia, Ramiro Puente and, others.
Oxum is a serious project that looks to transmit the passion for techno music. He was influenced at the beginning for genres like the High Energy, Indie, Industrial and Hard House. Now he is looking to show the lineal form an obscure and sick Techno, with prolonged and crude atmospheres.
This year he works in the development of the music production. He is taking percussion classes and exploring some musical instruments like the piano, analog synthesizers and keyboard. He is looking to develop an authentic and original sound; a sound that looks to give another face to this amazing musical gender that is techno.
Oxum presents Egun.
With this new project Edgar (aka Oxum) is looking forward to draw apart from the obscure and hard side of techno, showing us the other side of this genre. Doing this in a simple way, always accompanied of profound atmospheres, and hypnotic tracks. Coming soon he will release his first EP under this name.

Jenny Arredondo's exclusive interview with Edgar Paz (Egun, aka Oxun):
1.- When and how did you start Djing?
I started listening to electronic music at the beginning of 1998 when I was 9 years old thanks to some of my friends back then. They used to break-dance to Hip Hop, Acid House, Dance and Eurohouse. When I was 11 my passion for this electronic sounds grew stronger and eventually led me to learn how to spin and take this more seriously. A couple of years after that I decided to start spinning professionally.
2.- What kind of music did you listen to before starting djing?
I come from a family of melomaniacs with a wide musical taste. Thanks to my mother I was listening to High Energy and Disco music like Divine, Loverde, Patrick Miller, Lime and Trans X. On my own I was listening to The Chemical Brothers (they are one of my biggest influences), Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, New Order, Moby, Paul Oakenfold, Seb Fontaine, Timo Mass, Anthony Pappa, Beasties Boys, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube. My rock band influences were The Cure, Joy Division, The Doors, Caifanes, Dead Can Dance and Soda Estéreo.
3.- Tell us how the electronic music scene is in Mexico?
The electronic music scene in Mexico started decaying few years ago. Disunion between different crews and commercial genres like House, Tech House, Psy-Trance are the leading ones. Another important factor is the lack of cultural diffusion in Mexico. Talented artists in general, not only music producers, definitely need more support.
4.- Tell us about your show The Forgotten podcast on Fnoob Radio.
My show began over a year ago. Thanks to this project I had the opportunity to interact with great Techno talents such as Ricardo Garduno, Andres Gil, Soren Aalberg, Conrad Van Orton, Submerge, and more. I actually have another show called Indecent Sessions on a British radio called Techno HQ. The concept of this show is featuring underground techno artists around the world. The Forgotten podcast will be in standby for a while from now on due to the fact that I have new projects in mind.
5.- Can you tell us more about those projects?
One of them would be focusing on starting producing professionally. I'm currently working on developing my own style and sound. I'm also taking piano and percussion lessons to be able to complement and expand my music production. My other goal is to make my work known under my two aliases "Oxum" that focuses on the hard, dirty and dark side of techno and my new alias called "Egun" that is debuting on this episode of Feed The Raver. As Egun I want to focus on the deeper and hypnotic side of techno. I'm working on an EP at the moment under this alias and hope it will be released in the next months. A few interesting things are coming my way. I recently joined "Techno Resistencia" (one of the oldest collectives in the techno scene in Mexico). This year we are planning a few events in Mexico City in which we will feature local and international talents. Stay tuned.
Peace & Techno. I want to thank Feed The Raver for the invitation to be part of this great project!
