Faceless Recordings returns with its second release this September, in the shape of, ‘Confession’, by Moonwalk feat. Ego. Backed with remixes from some hotly tipped producers, namely, Balcazar & Sordo, Jon Charnis & Prab K, and Metrika.
Faceless Recordings was launched in April 2013, with Culprit artists and label co-founders, Climbers, ‘Left For Love’, garnering support from the likes of Catz’ N Dogz, Droog, Francesca Lombardo, Alexis Raphael and Rob Mello. Here the label, run by Climbers, Silky, and Barber, pushes forward with its second single, again displaying the labels attentive A&R approach by picking up on some rising artists in the industry, Italian duo Moonwalk, aka Mauro Morabello Morabito & Dario Viziolil, can boast releases for the likes of Diynamic, Lo:Rise and Mexa, slotting in alongside the likes of Maya Jane Coles, Lee Foss, H.O.S.H and Solomon, a striking indication of the undeniable quality embodied in their output.
The release opens with the original mix of ‘Confession’, featuring the soulful vocals of Ego, warm Rhodes, swirling atmospherics and straight 4/4 drums lead the way here, while a dark and moody bass hook adds a little grit to the bright composition. The stunning original vocal lines add a further unique quality to the record, resulting in a forward-thinking contemporary house track. Up next is No.19 Music and Dirt Crew duo, Balcazar & Sordo’s interpretation, again embracing a modern aesthetic with an evolving snippet of the original vocal, bumpy drum programming and a hypnotic, brooding atmosphere, achieved through dubbed out chords, blossoming pads and subtle tones tucked away in the depths of the background, as expected from this duo the end result is a heady peak-time workout.
On the latter half of the release, the second remix is offered up, pairing two heavily hyped artists, namely Jon Charnis and Prab K, of Innervisions / No.19 Music fame. The duo take the original cut on a deep and dark excursion with organic percussion, ethereal melodies and penetrating low-end sub hits, again creating a beautifully contrasting rework adding a further weight to the package. Last up to close the single is a mix from Crosstown Rebels / Hot Waves artist, Metrika, stamping his unique disco house mark on the track, with an insistent synth sequence, raw saw-wave bass, and resonant acidic licks, creating a intelligent tripped out reshape.
Moonwalk feat. Ego ‘Confession’ is out on Faceless Recordings 9th September 2013.
