che chen - icm002 (album preview) by Experimedia published on 2013/11/07 18:22:23 +0000 *Excerpts from the album. Now available at Experimedia.net.* *Ultra Limited Edition of only 25 copies.* Part two of a limited-edition lathe cut series profiling emerging NYC composers and the second release for Brooklyn label, In Context Music. ICM002 profiles the sonic journey of multi-instrumentalist Che Chen, following a trip studying Haratine and Beydane contemporary music culture in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania with master musician, Jeich Ould Chigaly. Che's recorded work combines distinctive guitar improvisations alongside a tape delay system and series of ambient street sounds , recorded from outside his apartment window in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The end result sounds something like a Mauritanian wedding ceremony recorded by Pierre Schaffer and is the first document of a new direction for Che following several releases focusing on sine waves. It is presented as a numbered edition of 25 individually hand cut records on transparent polycarbonate plastic, housed in a combination PVC and Mylar custom dual sleeve.
