Ewa Pepper is not your typical violin player. Her style of improvisation and passionate approach to various music styles brought her from busking on the Amsterdam streets to the major European music stages playing an eclectic repertoire from the blues to dnb, house, techno, dubstep and electronic.
Ewa grew up in a world of music, switching from piano to violin at age eight. In 2000, she graduated with honours from the Chopin School of Music in her native Poland. Continuing her education at the Cracow Institute of Performing Arts and Media Studies, Ewa obtained a Diploma in Drama and Broadcasting in 2002. She also obtained a Master Degree in International Relations from Cracow’s Jagiellonian University in 2012.
After her arrival in Amsterdam in 2002, she became increasingly interested in improvising and experimenting with different musical styles and arrangements, playing with a wide range of performers. Ewa started working with various bands and DJs improvising to live sets in clubs all over the Netherlands.
Her collaboration with Bassculture Foundation started in 2008, playing at Fusion Festival and Amsterdam Roots Festival followed quickly. In 2010, Ewa's violin sound burst on the international festivals scene after she joined Australian electro/organic dance band Loonaloop on their European summer tour, continuing for four years until 2013. She performed all over Europe, including Glastonbury Festival in the UK, Rock for People in Czech Republic, World Bodypainting Festival in Austria and Dance Valley in the Netherlands.
In 2013 Ewa played in a string section of a Dutch band, Christopher Green, at Pinkpop Festival. She also performed improvising with an Austrian band RhythMen at Gailklang Festival in Austria.
Recognised for being in tune with new sounds, in 2015 Ewa was a member of the jury for the “Talented Polonia”, a first talent show for Poles living in the Netherlands. In autumn 2015, she performed at “Women in the Industry MeetUp” at Amsterdam Dance Event.
Ewa is always eager and fascinated by the prospect to explore new musical horizons. She recorded with Ralph de Jongh on his released in 2016 double album “Lonesome man, Ocean of Love” and performed alongside blues legend Erwin Java at the CD release party in the North Sea Jazz Club in Amsterdam. She also performed with Ralph de Jongh during the after show of Iggy Pop concert in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. Ewa’s improvisation appears on Ralph de Jongh latest Trilogy – “Dancing on a Volcano” (released in March 2017).
Ewa collaborates with the Dutch vocalist Eva Wijnen. She also plays as a guest musician with Dutch band 4Tuoze Matroze, performed together at Oerol Festival 2016. With singer-songwriter Maya Shanti, Ewa performed as a support act for Niels Geusebreuk while his November 2016 Club Tour promoting album “Wildfire”, at Eurosonic Noorderslaag 2017, to name a few.
Ewa collaborates with Wavecandy, the Dutch music dance producer. She can be heard live on Cheeky Monday Radio, a live broadcast on SUB FM. Ewa is also involved in Symbiotic Sessions. She is stretching the boundaries of creativity in live electronic music by adding her improvisations to this innovative electronic live concept.
