Evelin Ramón Evelin Ramon Québec E V E L I N R A M O N has started her musical studies as a singer and choir conductor at the Santiago de Cuba Conservatory. In 2001 she began her composition studies at the Havana Superior Institute of Arts, under the guidance of composer Juan Piñera. She earned her B.A in composition in 2006. She has also studied with cuban composer Louis Aguirre, and has participated in workshops with composers Mario Lavista, Beat Furrer, and Mauricio Sotelo in Spain 2002, and with Edgar Alandia and Stefano Bracci while studying in Havana. In 2008 she moved permanently to Canada, where she has initiated her Master Degree in Composition in 2010, under the guidance of Mrs. Ana Sokolovic, at the Montreal University. Ms. Ramón has received several prizes such as: First prize Alejandro García Caturla contest, Havana; and also two prizes in the Montreal University’s composition contest. As a result of it, she received last year a commission for an orchestral piece that was premiered by the Montreal University Orchestra under the conducting of maestro Jean François Rivest in 2010. Her music has been performed in several festivals and venues in Canada, Germany, Spain and Cuba, and also broadcasted by the Cuban radio.
