Epiphany by Evan Kearney published on 2013/11/13 13:27:59 +0000 This song was an experiment to see if I could utilize pure late 19th century harmonic devices in a popular music context without sounding "dated" or silly. It was rather hard, because I had to mask a lot of the chords that were essential then that aren't used in popular music, for example fully diminished seventh chords, french sixth sonarities, and so on. Also, the modulations had to be smoothed out. I added a pretty catchy rhythmic motive in order to distract from these archaic features. I think it melded together effectively, creating a sense of profound intense euphoria rarely found in modern popular music due to the almost sexual analogue of the Dominant - Tonic build up and resolution (complete with false "completions" and all - that is Dom7-vi irregular resolutions). Enjoy!
