Evan Friedel is an American Audio Engineer, Producer, Remixer and Musician. He was born July 12th 1983 in the small gold rush town of Sonora, located in the Northern California foothills. His parents Rudolf, a German Mechanic and his mother Christie, an American Musician, exposed him to a wide range of music when he was just a young boy, to artists such as Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and Queen. On Evan’s 7th Birthday his Oma (Grandma in German) purchased him a Glockenspiel, which was the beginning of his interest in musical instruments. He later began to play his mothers acoustic guitar and would sing a long to music that his parents would listen to in the car and at home. While other kids were outside playing, Evan would be at home listening to music or experimenting with any musical instrument that he could get his hands on.
In his early teens he took bass guitar lessons for over a year from a local bass legend named Kris Osward. Later he played in local bands, High School jazz band, became a part of the High School Choir and marching band. At the end of Evans junior year of High School, he began to teach himself how to play the piano by ear, by playing along to bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode and Tori Amos. His interest in heavy metal began to vanish and his passion for piano, electronic and experimental music began to grow, which led him to purchasing his very first synthesizer and drum machine. By the time he graduated from High School, he was already recording writing and producing his very own music right out of his bedroom.
After living in several major cities as Sacramento, California and Portland, Oregon to name a few, he decided to further his love and knowledge for music by attending recording school in Los Angeles, California. In 2008 Evan applied for school at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California and was accepted into the Recording Artist program where he spent one year studying music production, recording techniques, synthesis, track Programming and visual media. After completing the Recording Artists program he decided to continue his studies a second year in the Audio Engineering program, where he studied audio engineering, music production, post production, recording, mixing, sound design and live sound.
In 2010 Evan graduated from the Musicians Institute and moved back to Northern, California, where he records and produces independent artists as well as his own music projects. His interest in sound crafting and electronic music composition led him to start his own sound design business named Proximity Audio, which specializes in the areas of field recording, foley recording and sound design.
Since graduating from the Musicians Institute he has completed remixes, produced, co-produced, recorded and mixed several albums as well as worked as a session bassist and vocalist for artists in the states and overseas. His passion for music continues to grow, pushing the creative boundaries with each musical project he encounters.
Currently Evan has been in the process of building his music production reel, personal website, completing his own music albums, as well as his sound design business. On the side of audio engineering he enjoys spending time with his fiancée, family, friends, his dog Matty, traveling and dabbling in the areas of digital photography and graphic design.
