Ernest Aines Ernest Aines Melbourne ERNEST AINES A singer/songwriter born in Melbourne Australia. Since he was a boy Ernest has been plucking a guitar with a particular zest for the finger style patterns of old. One day near his 16th birthday, his old guitar had its neck snapped clean off in a household cleaning accident, a new guitar lead to an avalanche of song ideas. Now he has been blessed with a couple of delicious sounding handmade guitars by Ian Yates of Melbourne . Ernest has recently been on the bill at The Westernport Festival, The St Kilda Festival and The Brunswick Festival. Awards include winning the Apollo Bay Young Songwriter Competition, International songwriting Competition Top 4 and finalist in the Melbourne Songwriting Competition. Over the past few years Ernest has been wending his way around the world as a wandering minstrel in Vancouver, Montreal, Seattle, New York, Japan, Berlin, and Brazil. He comes from family of musicians and has a quirky and refined lyricism, he does embrace the predictable or the formulaic - his melodies are dreamy and beautiful, his voice is moving and draws the listeners in. Acclaimed as "totally mesmerising" by Joy FM Roots'N All Van Dyke Parks reckoned him a "giant". Folk singer extraordinaire, Foy Vance, was entranced on stumbling across Ernest playing "Seasons" on the streets of Vancouver. "Shit hot" was Dan Sultan's opinion on hearing him play. His lyrics are unusual and catchy...sweet and dreamy voice that echoes the likes of Bon Iver and Gotye".
