Tarik Ricketts, or ‘Epicc’ a rising poetical artist extraordinaire, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Having this passion for music beginning at the age of 6, with influences like his uncle Rupert who is a big fan of the Hip Hop culture. Grandfather (who is now deceased) a huge fan of the ‘oldies’ & all around family that enjoyed various genres from ‘Reggae’ to ‘R&B.’ Writing and performing his very own lyrics was something he always drove & strived for as a growing teen he tells us. This young artist wrote his first song in the 7th grade with his cousin Michael ‘Lus’ Ricketts. It all started as a school project but developed a little buzz in Flatbush, Brooklyn in the summer of 2007; while entering high school with the same musical passion for writing songs. ‘Epicc’ attended ENY High School of Transit Technology, where he showcased his first live performance at the school’s talent show, having the people in his school recognizing his musical talent. He started a music group with his cousin ‘Lus’ called ‘Grand Era Entertainment.’ With rising stars joining along, ‘Epicc’ is aiming to make Grand Era Entertainment the most outstanding upcoming group from Brooklyn, New York & change the Hip Hop era completely.
During the Fall of 2012 marked the release of his first mix tape “Rebellion.” As an attempt of increasing promotion, Epicc uploads his tracks on soundcloud.com, youtube.com, and datpiff.com, getting average of 25 plays and 2 downloads per day. Through social networking sites and friends, Epicc has developed a network of artist and managers. They assist him with marketing strategies (artist appearance, social networks, media networks, etc.) and artist improvement (delivery, writing, stage presence, etc.). He has gained a great amount of knowledge from producers and managers. Without any management, ‘Epicc’ has been performing well as an independent artist. Performing showcases with indie artists such as ‘Ave Jones, Jadda, 85th, and AR&R.’
As a child, ‘Epicc’ played the drums & trumpet just to get that musical feel within sound, he says he actually became fund of the drums more than the trumpet. Through his interest in these instruments, he developed a love for Jazz and Reggae. His role models include ‘Wynton Marcelles, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bob Marley, Tony Rebel, Beres Hammond, and many more.’ When questioned, ‘Epicc’ describes himself as a poetical, unique, and substantial artist. By the strength of his hard working mother employed 2 jobs, he uses her as a motivation towards his goals and dreams. In the Summer of 2008 where he was employed to his first job as an Summer Youth Counselor’ it taught him to be socially/verbally creative. Any record label / artist would be lucky to have an artist such as ‘Epicc.’ His lyrics, deliverance and personality are equally impaired. People will enjoy the great work of such a very talented young artist.
