Enveloped | Disquiet0611 by encym published on 2023-09-18T16:39:27Z A guitar-only ambient offering for the Disquiet Junto Project 0611: Music That Listens to Itself The Assignment: Record a piece of music that repurposes itself as it proceeds. This has my present-day performance being overdubbed on to a recording I made decades ago. Which lends a new meaning to this week's call for music that "listens to itself" . In order to select a launching pad to work off of, I had search around my personal sound library and found a sample I recorded on my tape deck back in 1992. This starts off the track, fed through various delay instances in Logic. Onto that, I overdubbed three guitar tracks using different settings/modes on the Pladask Elektrisk Fabrikat, a granular sampler/delay that plays and re-plays what you feed into it, changing the sounds constantly through its internal algorithms as it goes along - and I also opted to make it sound even more organic by keeping fiddling with the knobs as the sounds played back. I went for particularly calm, slow movements, in order to achieve that "meditative" and "particularly quiet" quality Marc (@disquiet) called for. I am particularly fond of the tension between the material from then vs the recordings made now. What you're hearing on top of that basic track is a kind of bass line and two more mid-range/trebly Fabrikat tracks. Et voilá! Enjoy! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More on this 611th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Music That Listens to Itself (The Assignment: Record a piece of music that repurposes itself as it proceeds), at: https://disquiet.com/0611/ Some of the music resulting from this project may be included in a September 29, 2023, event at the Berkeley Alembic in Berkeley, California: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/expanded-listening-music-that-listens-to-itself-tickets-712124101357 About the Disquiet Junto: https://disquiet.com/junto/ Subscribe to project announcements: https://tinyletter.com/disquiet-junto/ Project discussion takes place on llllllll.co: https://llllllll.co/t/disquiet-junto-project-0611-music-that-listens-to-itself/ Genre Ambient Comment by hdathome too short… 2023-09-21T12:55:51Z Comment by Paul Beaudoin oh, loving this!!!! 2023-09-20T20:57:33Z Comment by Jonathan Beckenstein I am loving the dialog between the past and the present, in all its subtle detail. 2023-09-20T14:07:04Z Comment by idematoa Belle quiétude ! 2023-09-19T02:17:57Z
