Jerez
BIO(ENG)
El tubo elástico are an instrumental rock band from Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz, Spain).
Their influences are diverse, taking in progressive, symphonic, space, math and post rock as well as elements of funk, psychedelia, electronic and psy-ambient.
The band started in the late 90’s with a combined passion for classic rock bands from the 70s, such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Yes, Genesis, Camel, King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer. As well as a passion for their local andalusian rock bands, particularly Imán Califato Independiente.
Gradually, their music incorporated new elements from other musical styles and the evolution of progressive rock itself, inspired by bands like Ozric Tentacles, Liquid Tension Experiment or Porcupine Tree, among others.
The fusion of these diverse styles is achieved through an open creative process of intense improvisations. The arrangements of their compositions are always kept alive and are continuously evolving.
This organic process has allowed el tubo elástico to develop a powerful progressive rock style, whilst still keeping their characteristic sound and melodic basis reminiscent of early influences.
In those years, el tubo elástico carried out the recording of some demos and performed at several concerts and festivals, such as the Barbarian Rock Festival 1998 culminating with their set at the Festival of Advanced Music 2006 (MUA), a tribute to the legendary andalusian rock band, Imán Califato Independiente.
Shortly after this the band members decided to close this first period and took a break from performing.
It was in the summer of 2012 when, driven by the growing and inspiring current instrumental rock scene, el tubo elástico decided to get back to writing.
In this second period, Alfonso Romero, a close friend who was always besides the band, replaced one of the original members, Alejandro Zenón, to become their new bassist.
Their current line up is:
• Carlos Cabrera (drums and percussion),
• Alfonso Romero (bass),
• Daniel González (guitar),
• Vizen Rivas (guitar).
With this new line-up, the band have returned to their improvisational composition approach. Incorporating synthesizers and programming has further diversified their fusion of progressive rock with elements from electronic music, providing a very contemporary sound, but preserving the roots of classic rock as basis.
After composing a new set of songs, Alfonso took on the recording process at MusicaWorkshop studios, and so began the publication of el tubo elastico´s first eponymous LP which was digitally released in February 2015. The album captures all the energy of the band, as well as the evolution of the work developed from their beginnings up to nowadays.
Currently, the band are working on Vinyl + CD editions of their first album.
