Underdogs With Regrets by Elliott Hughes published on 2016-06-11T05:47:56Z Performed by Benjamin Anderson, Abbotsford Convert, November 2014. A piece for solo bass trombone and electronics. The starting point for this piece was two ideas - the music of Charles Mingus and an exhibition of American artist Jasper Johns. The borrowed Mingus material is mutated first by compositional devices, then through electronic processing (with all sounds generated live). This reflected Johns' exhibition, where a borrowed photograph was used as material to then put through multiple processes to create many separate works. This smaller sections of this piece similarly use different processes to create separate atmospheres from the same starting point. Genre Contemporary Classica/Electroacoustic
