"Rediscover Bulgaria!'' (radio documentary/feature) by Elena V. Georgieva (all rights reserved) by ElenaGeorgieva published on 2013/02/20 14:04:16 +0000 Radio documentary/feature about Bulgaria, one of the last countries to join the EU. Why British people know almost nothing about Bulgaria? What are their prejudices? What do Brits travelling often to Bulgaria think about it? What is actually Bulgaria - history, customs, traditions, people, lifestyle, tourism sights? How it's changing? After one year lots of Bulgarian immigrants will come to the UK as the labour restrictions will be lifted. Brits are afraid of invasion from the poorest EU country. They blame that Bulgarians will abuse the British benefit system. But they know nothing about Bulgaria except some facts that it's a post-communist country, gypsies with horses on the streets and cheap alcohol, sea and ski holidays. The aim of this documentary is to find out what Brits think of Bulgaria and why. Then, to give an insight to that strange distant country. Telling about its history, famous people, inventions of world importance, art, nature. The documentary does not fully represent the country as it's just 30 minutes long. But it shows the negative as well as the positive sides. It pictures Bulgaria as a mixture of ancient and modern, poverty and wealth. This documentary is an attempt of picturing Bulgaria for those who have never been there or have seen only little bits of its diverse face.
