Brébeuf Carol ('Twas in the Moon of Wintertime) by Elizabeth Knudson published on 2013-12-17T02:47:35Z This is an arrangement of the traditional Canadian Christmas carol, often known as 'The Huron Carol' or 'Twas in the Moon of Wintertime', composed in 1642 by Jean de Brébeuf, a Jesuit missionary at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. I created this arrangement for two female voices-- specifically for me and my sister to perform at a Christmas service. One voice ("The Priest") carries the simple, haunting melody, while the second voice creates a counterpoint ("The Fiddle"). This carol has always been one of my favourites, evoking both the bleakness and simple beauty of the winter season.
