היצירה "פשטות" (1989) לקול, סקסופון, גיטרה ואקורדיון, מבוססת על 3 שירי-עם (שיר בערבית מלבנון, שיר יהודי-ספרדי בלאדינו, ושיר בולגרי) וביניהם שזורים שני אינטרלודים. האינטרלוד השני, לקול וגיטרה, כולל טקסט מאת המשורר האמריקאי א. א. קמינגז. זו הייתה היצירה הראשונה שלי שבוצעה על במה מקצועית (פסטיבל המוסיקה העכשווית "מוסיכאן ביובל"), והיוותה צעד חשוב עבורי ועבור אתי, אשר שרה אותה: בעקבות הביצוע הוזמנתי ע"י המלחינים יוסי מר חיים ורון ויידברג להשתתף בסדרת הקונצרטים "מוסיקה עכשיו" במוזיאון תל-אביב, והלחנתי יצירה לאתי ולאנסמבל "מוסיקה נובה" בגרסתו אז. הקלטה זו של "פשטות" היא הקלטת רדיו שנעשתה בימק"א ירושלים בשנת 1991, עם אתי בן-זקן, רחל יצקן בסקסופון, דני עקיבא בגיטרה ונפתלי אהרוני באקורדיון.
"Simplicity" (1989) for voice, soprano saxophone, guitar and accordion, is based on 3 folk songs (Arabic, Ladino, Bulgarian)and 2 interludes. The second interlude, for voice and guitar, includes text by the American poet E. E. Cummings. This was my first piece to be performed on a professional stage (“Musikan Be-Yuval” contemporary music festival), and it was an important step for me and for Etty who sang it: Following this performance I was invited by composers Yossi Mar Chaim and Ron Weidberg to participate in the “Music Now” concert series at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and I composed a piece for Etty and for Musica Nova ensemble (in its version then). This recording of “Simplicity” is a radio recording from 1991, with Etty BenZaken, Rachel Yatskan (saxophone), Daniel Akiva (guitar) and Naftaly Aharoni (accordion).
