Dream Transition 1 by Eightfold Way published on 2013/01/15 20:07:22 +0000 The walls that surround us allow us to perceive the dynamics of a three dimensional space. Calling upon the work of Alvin Lucier’s I Am Sitting in a Room (1969) for inspiration, I projected my creative poem into my bedroom and re-recorded it in the same room three times. The poem symbolizes the structure of the walls as my body and the importance of listening to the spaces that are defined by three dimensions as well as the spaces between. But if the walls set the boundaries of a space, what lies in-between the walls? One can assume that the space in-between can be a “dream-space” existing only within my consciousness. In order to further articulate this idea with sound, the instrumentation used was recorded from sounds that penetrate the walls, such as ventilation, fans, piping and electromagnetic recording.
