Drifting Sun are a UK-based Progressive Rock studio project. Originally known as Drama, Drifting Sun dates back to the early 90’s when Keyboardist/Composer Pat Sanders left his native France for England with Bass Player Manu Michael. Their music has been described as dramatic, theatrical, & atmospheric, in the true style of Progressive Rock giants such as Dream Theater, Queensryche, Genesis and Jethro Tull, to name but a few of the bands that influenced their sound.
1996/1997 - Debut Album "Drifting Sun"
Pat had already composed some early material for the project, and joined forces with American Vocalist/Lyricist Rafe Pomeroy soon after his move to the UK. Together, they crafted some of the songs that are part of Drifting Sun’s first album. In 1994, they cut four numbers in a London Studio. The recording was sent to French Progressive Rock label Muséa while Pat was touring in Canada with another group. The demo received a positive response from Muséa, and a distribution deal with their parent Hard Rock label Brennus led to the making of Drifting Sun’s eponymous debut CD, released early in 1997 to positive reviews from across the globe.
1998/1999 - Second Album "On the Rebound"
Following the release of their first record, Drifting Sun parted company with Brennus and decided to carry on as an Indie band. Pat also set out to pump new blood into the group, resulting in drastic line-up changes within the band. In 1998 he met Drummer Tobin Bryant, who was introduced through a former member of Drifting Sun. Tobin introduced Guitarist John Spearman to the band. All that was left was the addition of a new Frontman. Quite by sheer coincidence, another American answered the call. Vocalist and Lyricist Chris Martini, a transplant from Rhode Island, was recruited to complete the line-up. The group began writing and recording material for their second helping, aptly titled On The Rebound, which was completed in the fall of 1998 and released as an independent production a few months later.
2014 - Third Album "Trip the Life Fantastic"
After taking a long break from the music business during which time he pursued other interests, Pat decided to revamp his project, and is now armed with a brand new line up. Drifting Sun have just completed the recording of their third opus, a brand new album entitled Trip The Life Fantastic, carved in Drifting Sun’s unmistakable vein, a rich and varied offering unveiling the band's full potential. Trip The Life Fantastic is now available as a digital download on itunes, Amazon etc, along with Drifting Sun's back catalogue.
DS's 4th opus, entitled Safe Asylum, is due to launch on May 21st, pre-orders now available from the band's official website.
