Bruce Lee once said, “You must be shapeless, formless, like water. Water can drip and it can crash.” Good music, to a degree, is like the substance Lee spoke of because it can invoke both happiness and sadness in a people. The Finland native songwriter, producer and musician Kayo, known as the man behind the project Dragon Rose, is keenly aware of the inspirational effects that his music can create. While most would cite that adrenaline and being able to espouse their problems through music as a motivating factor, it was clear early on that Kayo uses music for a much more spiritual reason. An avid traveler, music is the framework that holds much of what he has seen abroad. There is a very calming and grounded feeling to Dragon Rose’s music, almost an earmark to the core elements of philosophy, meditation and nature, and even literal at times with the inclusion of water, thunder and sea tones to the background of the music. While labeling Dragon Rose’s sound is near impossible, there’s a strong link between elements found in Chillstep, Chillout and Downtempo among others. Dragon Rose as a music project began in 2011 and since that time has collaborated with artists internationally in such countries as Portugal, Italy, Columbia, the United Kingdom, Israel and Nigeria. It has released 3 EPs and 6 singles on House Park Records, ALT Music Intention and Eye Lounge Records. Dragon Rose has overcome great odds and is destined to overcome even more; if the fans’ responses to his music is any indication, he may soon represent a fundamental shift to something soul-stirring and thought-provoking.
