Devon Turcotte - Career Knowledge Involves a Mindset Shift - Ep 6 by Hoda's Career Info published on 2021-05-18T21:23:42Z Episode 6 Devon Turcotte says, “follow your passion” is terrible career advice. Welcome to Hoda’s Career Info where I seek to explore your career answers by interviewing experts in the field. My purpose is to raise awareness about the importance of career literacy and the role that career professionals and practitioners play in supporting you to career success. My guest, Devon Turcotte, shares my passion to support young adults to success. Devon is the owner of Careerified, a company she started with the purpose of changing the career conversation. Devon absolutely enjoys helping youth find what she describes as 'career clarity'. If you’re struggling with what to do after high school or you’re not sure about what you want to be when you grow up, Devon can help you figure out these next steps in your career and education journey. Here are the questions we discussed 1. As an advocate of what I like to think of as Career literacy for youth, can you share your definition of Career Literacy and its value for your young clients? 2. As career professionals we typically come to this field from varied backgrounds. Describe the path that led you to create Careerified? 3. I love the name of your company Careerified. When I first saw it, somehow the word ‘glorified’ popped up in my mind. Now I cannot seem to let go of the idea that with your work and values, you are truly changing and glorifying the importance of career conversations particularly among young adults. I cannot wait to hear you elaborate on this. 4. In your YouTube video intro, you talk about the relation of educational and career choices to self-esteem. Do you mind explaining how the two are related? 5. We always tell our clients that their career path is determined by their values, among other personal characteristics. When I was looking at your website, I noticed and loved that you had a “values” page in addition to the typical “about” page. I am considering copying that. One of your values stood out to me because I have recently published an article about the topic and I would appreciate hearing you elaborate on the following quote, “follow your passion” is terrible career advice. 6. You offer different services. For the purpose of informing our audience about our role as career professionals, my next question is about the different packages that you offer. Can you quickly describe the different packages and perhaps highlight your or your client’s favourite? Reference Devon's article - I Used to Tell Kids to 'Follow Your Passion'.
