Donna Maya: Dolore by Donna Maya

"Dolere: The story of the little, sad spirits" is structured like a DJ mix, but completely through composed. All instrumental tracks were recorded with the theremin, except for the drums and bass that were programmed in Ableton Live. From about the middle, the piece turns around. From this point the instrumental tracks run backwards, so to speak back to the beginning.

Their inversion creates a new sound context, sometimes more or less interlinked, but always setting new impulses and continuing the sound story. Only the drum sounds do not turn back. However, the previously played rhythmic patterns appear in reverse order from the middle to the end.

Overall, the tempo increases continuously until the end, so that the second part of the piece, though based on the inverse of the first one, leaves a completely different listening experience than the first half.
