Justin “DocZion/Doc” is an Ecstatic Dance, House, World, Global Bass DJ and Founder of Sonoran Ecstatic Dance. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he was always surrounded by live music and the intro to electronic music. Doc traveled the country and world, eventually landing in Peru, where he lived in the Andes in a small town called Pisac for three years. On a trip to Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, Doc discovered Ecstatic Dance by the beloved Mose! He was hooked and decided to stay there for 5 months to really dive deeper into this magic medicine of EDance. Doc promised himself he would return to Peru to share this medicine weekly, and he did.
Doc has a passion for sharing Ecstatic Dance, world music, community, love, expression, and just a safe place to be yourself. Doc’s mixing is very much influenced by his time in Peru and Guatemala. His fusion of world beats from all over the world will surely take you on a journey through different rhythms, feelings, and emotions. Ayahuasca and other plant medicines have influenced Doc to share deep shamanic sounds, medicine songs, and other songs to help connect to the heart and release. These healing sounds have been so pivotal to Doc’s profound healings in plant medicine ceremonies, and he has found incredible ways to share these in a danceable way!
DocZion? What’s that mean?
Doc comes from Justin’s combat experience as a combat medic in the Army with a tour to Afghanistan. Doc is the name given to all front-line combat medic in war. Zion comes from Doc’s first Changa (nDMT mixed with an MAOI inhibitor and other plants), In this experience, Doc met a lion as a reflection of his own inner courage. At this time in Doc’s life, he had just left the military a year prior, and he was trying to find himself deeply. Meeting his biological brother for the first time, he was gifted Changa as a tool to heal his combat traumas and find the love deep inside his heart. Zion, the lion he met and is, has been a crucial tool for self-rediscovery and seeing his deep, loving, courageous lion inside him!
Ecstatic Dance has profoundly changed Doc’s life, and this has become a passion of his to share with others. Witnessing others have these profound experiences is the most remarkable thing to Doc. He honors that and is so grateful to be able to hold that space for others.
