"Starshine" from the musical of the same name, as performed on May 3, 2013 by Kyle Bolme (piano), Shelley Burton (soprano), and Kevin Rouchell (tenor). Composed by David Guillot.
In the scene this song accompanies, the noblewoman Dayna is disguised by magic to be the likeness of Alessandria, the woman Prince Emil actually loves. Emil has been hesitant around "Alessandria" lately because she's been acting different. The song "Starshine" is where Dayna artfully seduces Emil with flowery language and images of passion. By the end they've made love, and Dayna coerces Emil into agreeing to marry her, which was the point of her deception all along. Though she is indeed a changed woman, Emil warms up to these changes.
Starshine, burning, radiant and tragic
Lifetimes yearning, waiting on the magic
Of that glorious hour, that moment of power
A violent, brilliant flare
But it wanes to a spark, giving way to the dark
Silent and still in the the air...
I'll be the starshine sparkling in your eyes
If you'll adore me until my luster fades
We'll end the dark night, illuminate the skies
Your arms will warm me till my star's last blaze
Moonbeams reigning, pure, enchanting skylights
Waxing, waning, granting earth her highlights
Still, the moon in its glory is not the whole story
It's only a wasteland of stone
But it glows in the rays of the Sol's hidden blaze
So it rules the dark hour not by its power alone
I need your starshine, making the night as the day
I will revere you, and keep your luster bright
Basking in your fire, I swear that I will stay
Forever near you till our souls ignite
Does he know I’m starting to know him?
Can he see I’m beginning to see him?
Will he understand me as I understand him?
For his sake, must I keep silence?
One mistake could mean havoc and violence!
Why can't he feel? How can this be real?
As I face my new existence, I embrace him from a distance;
For though I stand at his side, my hand is denied his heart.
Bound together by deception, forced apart by our intentions!
Shall I adore him in vain, rewarded with pain and scars?
In every lifetime, splendor dims and dies,
Just like a candle expending all its heat.
But I’ll find starshine forever in your eyes,
And I will love you till your heart’s last beat!
I will adore you until your luster fades;
And I will warm you till your star’s last blaze.
