The Conundrum of the Bent Tuning Forks by DMgUILLOTINE published on 2012-11-28T21:00:42Z Give this a listen if you're interested. It contains three tetrads, played using sampled tuning forks with some distortion. They have slow beating, as if they have at least one near-just interval, and yet none of the subset triads (or dyads) exhibit any beating. How is this possible? 1. In 12-EDO, 0-1100-1700-2200, followed by its four subset triads and then played in full again. A3-G#4-D5-G5 2. 0-1812-2622-3212, followed by its four subset triads and then played in full again. 3. 0-1002-1444-1951, followed by its four subset triads and then played in full again. 4. Music for Bent Tuning Forks (in 12 EDO). It contains some such tetrads. Notice that in each case the full tetrad has slow beating while all of the triads are beatless.
