First got into the dance music scene around 1989 when it all
started to be have a much bigger impact in the UK.There was definitely a lot more of this type of music getting played on the radio & in the charts.
What would become known as Italian and Rap House initially. Acts like Bass-O-Matic , Technotronic , Mr.Lee , Cold Cut & S-Express to name a few.
For the next few years this type of dance music would grow and grow.
Out of the cross over 'Rap House' genre, I found myself getting more into the raw form of hip hop between 90-93 .Initially people such as Schoolly D , Epmd, Ice -T & Kool G Rap & Polo....followed by more well known artists such as Public Enemy,Gang Starr, Big Dady Kane & NWA etc...
Around mid 1993 I started to leave hip hop behind as I felt it had become too commercialised .
Through a friend lending me some tapes i started to find out & concentrate more on the hardcore scene
.Listening to Fantazia tapes and the likes of Top Buzz,Dr.Gachet,
Easygroove and Seduction i was soon hooked !lol
So it wasn't long before i wanted to experience the real thing .Which was when I started goin raving regularly at Oscars @ Clacton .
By mid '94 i had started to venture into the wider raving scene at events such as Double Dipped @ Bagleys , One Nation ,United Dance and Dreamscape .
After experiencing a year of that i felt i wanted to get the other side of the decks lol
A year later I had saved up enough to get some
Technics 1210’s(which I still have!).
I had also become good mates with DJ Gozzy [Terry] who had already played out quite a bit. And had just got a residency at Bagleys ‘Double Dipped’ on a Friday night.
And went on to become the resident at Labyrinth in 96 as well as having played at Dance Paradise, United Dance, Vibealite and more .
From that day, with the combination of advice from Terry and my own enthusiasm I never looked back!
DJ History & Pirate Radio
I first started getting a few plays at Oscars back in
the late 90's ,sadly this venue then went into
receivership,and so I started
doing mostly local small events that I or people I
knew put on..
In early '99 I started playing at Wiseguys in
Croydon, this was a weekly hardcore night put on by
Kevin Energy & DJ Kaos who ran Wax City Records .This ran for quite
a while until the club closed.
They then put a few one off events on at
Labyrinth,Dalston Lane which I played at.
By mid '99 I landed my first pirate radio slot
on the already well known London station Addiction 95.2 FM [run by DJ Uplift & DTM ].
There I did a Sunday morning 8am-10am show.
This was to last about 6 months as the station came
to an end after various studio problems.
It was then that I joined Hyper 106.5 FM [run by Phantom D ] where I did a Friday night 10pm-12am show for the next 2 years.
In late 2001 Hyper FM also sadly came to an end due to financial problems.
In October 2001 I joined Eruption
101.3 FM [run by The Demolition Cru ] where I did the Saturday night 10pm-12am show .
This was to last for the next 10 years! Who knew a decade could go so quickly ?! :D
Unfortunately in late 2011,after 18 years of broadcasting to London & surrounding counties
the decision was made to lay the station to rest.
From 2000-present I've played at events such as:
Future Dance @Castle Studios.... Labyrinth @Dalston Lane ...Dark Energy @Lakota .... HTID @Club Air .... Jellybeanz @Hidden
& Dance Explosion @Jacks to name a few .
From 2000-2002 i regularly played at Total Hypnosis run by Phantom D & others [mostly back to back with another DJ from Hyper FM who played after me DJ Jonah]
.At the start of 2003 he had decided to take a break from running the event due to various problems with the other people helping him run the night.
However, when we all met up at an event one night in January 2004, we decided that the three of us could bring it back and make it sustainable over a longer period than before .We launched the first comeback event in the Summer of 2004 ,and built it up from there. A few years later , DJ Dominator ,another of the old DJ's form Hyper FM joined us to make it a four.
From 2004- 2008 we successfully had a large regular following at The Mass, Brixton . Where we played a mix of Old Skool Jungle & Upfront D'n'B ,with regulars such as Funky Flirt , Jack Knife, Kane, Probe & Food Junky and Headliners such as Nicky Blackmarket, Ray Keith & Brockie to name a few. We also become well known for our 'free cake' giveways at the end of the night !
From 2009 -2012 we moved on from Mass [due to it being sold on to new owners].
But we continued where we left off and put events on in various clubs around the Vauxhall area, such as Hidden, Lightbox & Club Factory.
2000 - 2003
I had done some guest shows on a few internet sations in this period, but they were still few and far between then . A couple I can remember were BreakPirates[which is still goin] an NewTech Pirates [now defunct] .
The summer of 2004 was the first time i graced the Unite Radio HQ . I played a few guest sets on a Wednesday night for a while.
I even had the honour of playing at the now infamous 'Cheese Awards' in 2005
....luckily i was nowhere near the top ,the utlimate winner crown & sash goin to Marc Blitz
I then played a regular set for a few years on a Sunday 4pm-6pm,sometimes doing a b2b with a mate of mine DJ Deadbeat.
Now back doing a regular Friday night show on Unite 9pm-11pm . Playing a combination of Hardcore,Old Skool & Jungle/Drum N Bass....... keep it locked ! :D
