My Root´S Music
Frans Silva is a House music DJ/Producer from Maio, Cabo Verde.
His music passion started at very young age, not only because of his family influence, who has a fair share of musicians and composers, but also because in his house he always had easy access to music. His father, an immigrant in The Netherlands would return home on holidays and bring gifts, music albums of various genres and different cultures. This escalated his passion to music, and as a teenager he began to DJ first as a hobby.
In the beginning, encouraged by family and friends, he would provide his amateur DJ services to his local community,Vila do Maio, providing music entertainment to family gatherings, weddings, birthday parties and so on. That continued until his early adulthood. In 2009, he emigrated to Portugal, to the Algarve Region, to enter university and continue his studies. But he never quited his hobby, first making a name for himself as the DJ for the African Students Club of University of Faro’s parties. Receiving positive feedbacks he finally decided to be a professional DJ.
As a professional he began first in the Algarve Region and then expanding all over Portugal, playing in some of country’s most notorious clubs. Clubs such as Black Jack Disco(Vilamoura Casino), Hard Club (Porto), Estação da Luz(Aveiro), NB Coimbra (Coimbra), Via Rápida (Porto) among others.
Early on, his musical style was Kizomba, Funaná, Kuduro, Afro Pop and popular genres like Pop and Hip-Hop. But with more DJ experience, his style started to shift to House music, specially the Afro-House, Deep House, Soulful subgenres . This change in musical style culminated with him finally giving a shot in producing music.
With his musical influences ranging from Cape-verdeans artists (Os Tubarões, Gil Semedo, Livity, etc.) and international acts ranging from many countries and genres (Michael Jackson, Lucky Dube,Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Kassav, etc), his objective was to create something new and exciting.
One artist had a bigger impact when it came to him choosing the path of music producer, Black Coffee. The South African not only inspired him with his music but also with his life story, his journey. Something he’s trying to recreate in his own way.
In 2016, finishing his Music Producer course at Etic Algarve , he released two tracks: “Spiritual Ascension” and “Call of Our Ancestors". Producing a music video for the latter. All this under his label, My Root´S Music.
In pursuing this path he passed from Algarve to Lisbon, Porto to London and finally to Manchester where he resides at the moment.
