Tyler Mulder, better known by his stage name Agent Mulda, is a Canadian Dj, promoter and event coordinator of Afro/Caribbean music based out of Los Angeles, California.
Mulder was born in Toronto, Ontario, spent his childhood living in Sydney, Australia, then returned to Toronto for his formative years where his love for music and dance developed into the beginnings of a dream.
Coming from a diverse back ground of Dutch, Caribbean & British heritage, Mulder was brought up with very multi-cultural musical influences in the home. Blues, Jazz, Folk, Reggae and Calypso were the major styles that formed the platform for his passion. This eventually led to his interest in modern styles of African and Caribbean music. After watching some of Toronto’s most seasoned Blues & Jazz musicians during the late 90’s, Mulder took an interest in learning the popular swing dance of the 1920’s called Lindy-Hop. He soon left Toronto and moved west, to Vancouver, where he taught that style of dance from 1999-2002. During this time, Mulder’s musical interests were being heavily swayed in the direction of Afro/Caribbean rhythms, and eventually became the focus of his musical career.
After 2 years of coordinating Caribbean events and dances in Vancouver, Mulder began to travel annually to the Caribbean, and visited Uganda, East Africa in 2009. He felt it was important, travelling to the source, to extend his knowledge of these genres of music. Since then, it has been his vision to promote, play, and educate people with the most eclectic, non-mainstream styles of Afro/Caribbean dance music available today.
