The man they call Dubious has been rockin’ parties, and dropping crazy disco / house jams for over 10 years.
His initial forays into electronic music begain in the late 90s with the library music / hip hop project The Studio Sound. Signed to LA label Plug Research (Flying Lotus, DNTEL) a full length album was recorded and ready to drop but remained shelved due to label financials.
At this point living in Toronto he moved away from these more experimental downtempo beginnings to focus on the sounds that would define his future work – boogie, disco, electro uk garage and house.
He formed Prize Records in early 2003 and immediately scored with multiple sold out 12” pressings. He has released 12”s on the esteemed Bear Funk, Truffle and Deep Freeze labels, with tracks licensed by Sony Music, Columbia Japan and numerous DJ compilations. His productions received regular support and play form the likes of Brennan Green, Morgan Geist, Prins Thomas, Seiji, Prince Language, Tim Sweeny and Todd Terje.
He has also released 12”s under the alias’s: Painted Nails, The Real, and Strange Brew ( a collaboration with Steve Yanko).
Always an active DJ he has helmed numerous residencies including – Eyes On The Prize (Beaver, Toronto), Big Fives (Drake Hotel / Andy Poolhall, Toronto) , Cavern (Mod Club, Toronto), Bumper to Bumper (Andy Poolhall, Toronto), Loose (Hells Kitchen, Halifax), The Mixdown (Hunt Club, Halifax) and currently the monthly Shake It Out (Menz Bar, Halifax).
