Jason Andreas (born 03 July 1991), known by his stage name as Dronkie (he got the name from his friends due to the fact that he is a socialite, so he had no choice but to accept the name) is a Namibian Kwaito musician. He's one of the prominent artists in Namibia and he is considered by his fans as one of the best Namibian Kwaito upcoming artist.
Dronkie was an unaccompanied artist until he happened to meet Kanime Thomas “Chicks” in 2008 that asked him to join the group that was called ‘’ AMA BLACK DICE”. He accepted to join the group in 2008 and they started recording songs like: I’m on a mission (this track was loved by a lot of people in Ruacana at the time they were busy with high school), Saatutilika and Ongalo Ndjika. He again met OB (present member of the crew) and they got to know each other and started recording songs loved by many people - it was all about rhymes everyday when they were together.
Because starting is always a common difficulty, the crew contributed for recordings and all the music equipment they needed at that time. They say if you get an opportunity grasp it, don’t let is pass by, struggle never loose and the more you try, the more you get to know: these were the three philosophies Dronkie had and still has in mind, a statement that Dronkie heard from one of the local successful artists in Namibia known as Qondja.
Dronkie began his formal education at Oshuungu Combined School situated in Oshuungu village, a village between Oshakati and Oshikuku. Dronkie has been living there till the age of 17 when he finished grade 10. Dronkie is the youngest child of four siblings on the mother’s side (he is the only guy on his mothers side and they were born four-Anna, Consitacia, Martha and Andreas (Dronkie)) and on the fathers side he is the second last. His aspiration as a child was to become a Criminal Justice Professional while music remained an active passion. In 2008, he moved to Ruacana to attend his secondary education at Ruacana High School in the Kunene Region. After graduating from high school, Dronkie chose to study for a Criminal Justice Degree at Polytechinic of Namibia. He is still present in polytechnic and at the same time doing music as a second career in life (just in case music fails to put food on the table Dronkie is pursuing to complete his tertiary education so he can have a salary to fall back on in times when music isn’t doing well)..
Fighting for Fame
Dronkie and his crew used to perform at concerts in his high school years. When he was in grade 11, he and long time friends Bonzalo, Chicks and Bruno created a Kwaito singing group called BlackZanga. At his early age he got inspired by the arrival of the Namibian Kwaito legend The Dogg-he knew all Dogg’s tracks from the old albums, A to z. His big brother Jason Leonard “Bra Gun” had songs that he recorded with his HIP/HOP crew called Flip Siders, this made Dronkie to get inspired also. Because Bonzalo was a close friend of him, he taught Dronkie how to sing and write songs and Bonzalo forced him to join the school quire in order to obtain more skills of singing- how to control this voice. His parents never liked him to become a singer so they never supported him. “my mom thought I will fail grade 12 due to music that I was struggling with and the truth is that parents believes that all Namibian Artists use Drugs and Alcohol” .Him and his crew opened shows for different events. The group did not succeed it died early because of lack of support and that everyone wanted to be the boss of the group.
After completing his high school level Dronkie moved to Windhoek to continue with his tertiary education and because his fellow members ( OB and Chicks) were not done, time for seeing each other was limited, Dronkie started to record his tracks alone just to entertain his friends. He travelled all over to promote his group. He met a small studio owner called Bloskid “Optimistic Record” and agreed to record him for free. He worked with a lot of underground producers like Ndeu, KashBeats, Nappa, Lax-Platform, Bra Gun Desh, Herry, Ap-Swetjive and Momento. He did underground collaborations with a lot of artists and so far he has 25 tracks that he recorded alone and 14 that they did in the group. Got registered with NASCAM and took one song on radio- Energy 100.
