Deadly D is a Bellingham, WA-based funkadelic hip-hop fusion band comprised of two emcees, a female vocalist, drums, bass, trumpet and a live DJ. Together they provide a unique style of hip-hop infused with funk, soul, rock and blues.
DJ Birdman delivers funky beats scratched over top of the raw percussion of Beau “Zorbatron” Boyd and the groovy baselines of Sean Mckee. Energetic, thought-provoking lyrics of front man Steve “Stevey B” Borden and the tantalizing hooks of Lydia Davis are perfectly complemented by the dance moves and crazy onstage antics of the group’s hype man, Matthew “Titty” Chistion. With silky smooth trumpet by Ray Cooney enhancing the heat of every beat, the group creates a captivating stage show that gets everyone out of their seats.
First established in 2011, Deadly D has played over 350 shows throughout the United States, Canada and even over seas in Vietnam and Thailand. With exciting style and feel-good music with a message, they have shared the stage with the likes of Talib Kweli, Paul Wall, Nappy Roots, Del the Funky Homosapien, The Hieroglyphics, Gift of Gab, Zion I, The Grouch & Eligh, ¡MAYDAY!, Riff Raff, Dirt Nasty, Mickey Avalon, Lyrics Born and many more.
Just off a recent tour of SE Asia, the award-winning group’s music has been compared to The Roots, Kendrick Lamar, Outkast, Atmosphere and Lupe Fiasco. Along with extensive independent touring, the band has appeared at festivals including Seattle Hempfest, Hard Rock Rising, Boeing’s ’16 Centennial, Bearmouth Music Fest, BrodieNation and the Seattle Rock n’ Roll Marathon.
In competition, they’ve made a name for themselves throughout the Pacific Northwest. Scoring second place in 2015’s Seattle Hard Rock Rising: Global Battle of the Bands competition, they bested more than 300 bands. They also won the Surprise Artist of the Year and were named one of the 8 Incredible Artist of the Year at The Write Reviews - Write Awards 2018 and in 2013 won Hip-Hop Duo of the Year at the International Music and Entertainment Awards (IMEAs), where the title track of their mixtape Light Side of the Moon was nominated for Hip-Hop Song of the Year.
Their album, Psychology, released in January 2014 has received rave reviews. Richard Berry of Doldrums Entertainment also says, “The duo eases the audience into their quick style with smooth, flowing choruses.” Mike Roe of What's Up Magazine said their work has the “potential to be really, really big,” while Underground On Top Online called it “amazing,” comparing their work to classic old school Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
Deadly D is currently developing another full-length album and planning another international tour.
