davidphilipnorris David Norris Minneapolis My goal is to write music that tells stories, evokes images, and speaks foremost to the human experience by maintaining a relationship with both the past and the present, and looking to the future. While I am most at home writing for the voice, my background as a pianist and percussionist drives and influences my instrumental writing, so that each influences other. My style varies from project to project, but is broadly and firmly contemporary in sound, following the traditions of Igor Stravinsky, Benjamin Britten, Stephen Sondheim and John Adams. I have largely turned from the culture of the concert hall in favour of the theatre, where there is greater flexibility and potential for cross-fertilization of the Arts.
