“Contortions” is a dynamic and impassioned song that moves like a sinuous stream between mystique and volatility. The track features undulating dance rhythms, atmospheric pads, morphing leads, a vortex of psychedelic delay trills, and rumbling, driving bass lines. Notably, the focal point of the song is the interplay of vocals by Phill Celeste (Life on Planets) and LA-based vocalist, Hannah Noelle. Noelle’s celestial singing coupled with Celeste’s more rhythmic vocal triplets forms a dialogue between two people who, through journey and discovery, are drawn to one another by an irresistible, cosmic pull. Taken together, the sonic elements converge to render a dynamic story of human attraction, typified by moments of suspense and chaos, as well as resolution, euphoria, and harmony. “Contortions” is the first collaboration of 2020 between David Marston and Life on Planets.
