Hurricane On A Birthday [disquiet0249] by Dave Dorgan published on 2016-10-08T14:38:20Z Disquiet Junto Project 0249: 80 Phases Wish the minimalist composer Steve Reich a happy birthday. - My wife's birthday was on Thursday, and we spent it finishing the battening down of the hatches as hurricane Mathew came in. Had I read the description of this project I would have recorded my son and I singing Happy Birthday and used that in this piece. Oh well. Luckily the hurricane nudged slightly right at Cape Canaveral and we dodged the worst of it. - I did record the wind of the back side bands passing through last night and that's what I used here. When listening back i realized it was the first time in seven years I was able to record something before midnight that didn't have the sound of an airplane in it;) - I played the first six notes of Happy Birthday in Logic. I picked a guitar sound that was fairly staccato. I then created a total of 13 instances of it. - Starting with the next to last track, I took a little of the end - about 1/64th note - but not exact. Then did that for each track back to the first so no one was the same length. - The sound got a bit clouded, so I opted to use the 1st, 5th, 9th and 13th track. Pan was set to 60, 20, -20, and -60. - A little reverb was applied to the four tracks on an Aux. - The phrases do sync up at the 3:24 mark.
