9th Song by Atha Music published on 2012-11-08T16:57:07Z 9 SONGS by Daniel Ryan, Daniel Bellury & Daniel Whitt Written, recorded and produced by Daniels Bellury, Ryan & Whitt in Athens, Alabama June 10th through June 16th 2012 Mixed and mastered by Daniel Whitt Artwork by Alastair Levy, design by Daniel Bellury ABOUT: We had six days, nothing written and no plan. Daniel Bellury and I pulled in on Saturday with our gear in the back of a rented Impala. The idea was to combine a vacation with what we love: making records. Daniel Whitt and his family welcomed us into their home, which sits adjacent to Whitt’s music studio. The first song was written and recorded that night. We had just set up. It was a sound check. It practically fell out. The next day songs 2 and 3 were begun. We got high on working fast so quickly it created a vibe the three of us would feed off for months. The pace of work was feverish but we were relaxed. The days were full of leisure. The work was easy. We had eight years of working experience, but hadn’t played in a room together since 2008. Whatever happened live in the few hours these songs would be performed live was what ended up on tape. In the recording process we discovered that the track listing would be the chronological order the songs were recorded in. Furthermore, each song’s name would be it’s number in the order it was recorded. “1st Song” was the first song, completely written and recorded on Sunday, June 10. “9th Song” (the last song) was completely written and recorded on Saturday, June 16, the day Daniel Bellury and I left to return to Brooklyn. Whitt mixed and mastered in August. Post-production was casual. The record is named 9 Songs in reflection of its simple philosophy and effortlessness.
