Tempo e Barbárie by danilorossetti published on 2013-03-08T16:59:59Z Tempo e Barbárie was composed during my Master Degree Studies and is largely a verbal electroacoustic composition. It has been used, besides voice sounds, sounds achieved from FM synthesis and piano recorded sounds. The motivation for the work realization emerged from the reading of Dialectic of Enlightenment from Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer, mainly their analysis of the cultural industry and the relation between arts and means of production. We selected a few sentences of Adorno and Horkheimer’s work and recorded them. The respective audio was used on the composition, although it’s understanding is almost impossible in the final result of the work, due to the audio manipulation procedures during the composition. Procedures like filters, time-stretching and granulation were applied several times to the original material and the spatialization in four channels – held on the Music Pan Space software (MPSP), from PANaroma Studio – was defined according to the internal structure of each sound. On the macro level, the formal structure of the work has five sections, and the duration of the sections (in seconds) were determined according the golden ratio. Genre electroacoustic
