On May 20th, 1965, two radio astronomers, Dr. Robert Woodrow Wilson and Dr. Arno Penzias, made literally astronomical leaps in the quest to answer that question. From the remote hills of Holmdel, a small and unknown town in central NJ, they became the first people on Earth to hear radiation left over from the Big Bang. Their discovery of cosmic microwave background radiation, arguably the greatest scientific discovery of mankind, proved the Big Bang over 13 billion years ago. Yet half a century later, many of Holmdel’s residents are oblivious to this history. Our podcast recounts the 5-month long journey we undertook to rediscover our town and trace its roots. From our interview with Nobel Laureate Dr. Robert Woodrow Wilson to our inspiration in taking this matter to our mayor, we aspire to educate the world about the discoveries made in Holmdel and communicate the importance of science in our society today.
