He has shared the stage with Gordon Gano and received plaudits for his compositions from Eugene Chadbourne and Shimmy Disc’s Kramer. Musician and journalist John Kruth, the biographer of Townes Van Zandt and Roy Orbison, has included Hanrahan’s song “Three Waves” into his shows around the world for the last decade. His forthcoming album is a collection of original protest songs entitled "Radical Songs for Rough Times." Dan recently finished recording an album of original songs in English and Portuguese at the legendary Sound of Music Studios in Richmond, Virginia. The album features guest instrumentalists Alan Weatherhead (Sparklehorse), Josh Camp (Chicha Libre), Miguel Rodriguez (Camper Van Beethoven) and Brazilian stringed instrument virtuoso Renato Anesi (Tom Zé). After being sidelined for many years with chronic tendinitis, Dan Hanrahan is back and stronger than ever with songs influenced by Tin Pan Alley, Surrealist poetry, and the folk traditions of England and Eastern Europe. He has performed his music at such diverse venues as The Milwaukee Art Museum, The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, The Rhinoceros Theater Festival, Beyond Baroque in Los Angeles & the Nuyorican Poets' Café. Recent shows include a performance at the fabled Shakemore Festival in Maryland and gigs at The Crown and Red Room in Baltimore.
